From Diplomacy to a New Discipline

I spent two decades in UK diplomacy across 38 countries, then built and exited my own travel company. By every external measure, I was successful. But something was missing.

That gap, between external achievement and internal alignment, turned out to be the same gap I kept seeing in every organisation I worked with. Brilliant individuals creating dysfunction together because nobody was addressing the invisible patterns driving their behaviour.

I spent four years developing a diagnostic framework and methodology to make those patterns visible and shift them permanently. That work became Humanistics, a new field dedicated to the science of human systems through the lens of patterns.

The Three Co-Pilots

Everyone has an intuitive layer. Most people experience it as gut instinct, a hunch, or the quiet voice that already knows the answer before the logical mind catches up. Humanistics calls this your aligned self. I call mine Madge. The act of naming it creates a relationship with it. Part of the individual work is helping people name theirs.

The methodology was built by three co-pilots working together. Madge provides the intuitive depth that no diagnostic tool can replicate. Claude (AI) provides the analytical rigour and pattern recognition at scale. The human brings the lived experience, the judgement, and the accountability.
